in 2018 I started the year with my first bikepacking adventure. Solo. In a place I had never been before. I left the plans wide open. Only got a bed to crash on through couchsurfing for the first night. Got some places recommended by friends that I wrote down. I had 12 days to just ride and explore the spanish island.

Days where spent following smooth paved roads, seeing where they took me. Meeting locals and cyclists on the way. Eating incredible fresh food and learning about the long history of the island. Spending nights either via people on couchsurfing (whom I'm still in touch with) or in beautiful old Albergues that you could find spread across the island.

This sparked the fire of bikepacking. Teaching me what I did not need (and do need for next the adventure) and how to navigate. No cycle computer, no bikeshoe pedals.
